Customs and manners in Norway

  • No matter what time of day it is, Norwegians greet each other with a friendly, "Morn." It has roughly the same meaning as "hi"

  • If meeting someone, the term "god dag" is used

  • When meeting for the first time, Norwegians call each other by thier first and last name

  • Children can call thier teachers by thier first names at school

  • Chewing gum is inappropriate in public and buisness places

  • It isn't polite to refuse refreshments from hosts

  • It also isn't good to leave right after dinner has finished

  • Children should say "Takk for maten," which means "thank you for the food," after meals

  • In a resturaunt, a patron gets the attention of a server with a raised hand, so the server doesn't interupt the patron's conversation

  • Topics like income and social status is avoided in conversaitions, alike the U.S.
