Climate and what to pack in Norway

Norway is a very complicated country because it has many different climate types such as marine West coast, humid continental, and subarctic. If you're traveling to Norway, you would have to bring lots of different types of clothes with you.

Low season: October-April

  • Can be really cold

  • Many tourist attractions are closed

  • Hotel accomodations can be pricey, especially on weekends

  • Not recommended to visit at this time of year

 

Shoulder season: May-mid June and mid August-September

  • Not many crowds during this time of year

  • Mild, clear weather

High season: mid June-mid August

  • Hotels are at low prices now

  • Can be warm and sunny, or cold and rainiy

  • Accomodations and transpot should be booked in advance

What to pack when visiting during high season:

  • Capris or leggings that can be worn in hot and cold weather, since it can be unpredictable

  • A sweatshirt or light coat that can be easy to put away if getting too hot

  • A backpack to put extra clothes in if needed, such as jacket, socks, hat, etc.

  • Good walking shoes if taking a hike

  • Boots, hat, heavy winter jacket, etc., if visiting Svalbard
